Why Buy Window Film?

Buying window film can be intimidating.  Unless you happen to be in the industry, your knowledge of window film is probably limited to “Limo Tint”.   Everyone has seen the limousine cruising down the road and wondered who is on the other side of that glass……. Window tint makes that privacy possible.  If you are trying to buy window film, choosing the right tint can be problematic for many consumers. With so many brands and different kinds of film to choose from, deciding on the type and shade of film for your vehicle or property can be difficult. So, let’s do some window film education.

  • Reduce Glare
  • Privacy
  • Lower HVAC Bills
  • Enhance Appearance
  • UV Protection
  • Theft Deterrent
  • Safety/Security

Above are just some of the reasons you might be looking for window film information.  There are important things to remember when buying window film: state legal limits, film to glass ratio, specific performance.  These are all things that your professional installer will have the answers to.

Window Tint Basics

Window film is made from polyester that reduces sunlight from passing the glass it has been applied to.  This information is understood by most, but there are many other nuances that will determine if you are satisfied with your film.   Probably the most misunderstood accept of window tint is the VLT or Visual Light Transmission.  In other words, VLT is the percentage of visible light the tint allows to pass from the exterior of the window to the interior. So that limo tint with a 5% VLT means that only 5% of exterior light can pass through the film, which is why it’s so dark.  THE LOWER THE PERCENTAGE, THE LESS LIGHT!

Types of Film

Dyed, Metallized, carbon, and ceramic…The easiest way for you to relate to this is “Good, Better, Best”! As you go up in product line, you will increase price and performance.   Each film has strong benefits for a variety of applications and in some cases, a good dyed film may be all that you need to solve your problem.  Ask you window film professional for pros and cons of each.
