Common Window Film Questions

What Is Window Film?

In its most basic terms, window film is a thin layer of laminate that is tinted to block the Sun’s UV rays.  There are numerous other benefits to the film that both your family reap and well as what is being protected by the film.  The benefits for both personal and property protection come in the form of added safety to those behind the glass.

Dating back to the mid 1960’s the original goal of window film was to reject heat.  Originally, the heat rejection was achieved from a ‘ tint spray”.  Quickly it was seen that this method was no good as it was very dark or thick in some areas and light in others.  Our industry did advance beyond the spray and is not a billion dollar business with some of the latest state of the art technology.

How To Clean Windows That Have been Tinted?

This is not going to be rocket science……..   We recommend ammonia free glass cleaner.   A generous spray of the cleaner a strong wipe down with a microfiber cloth.  You can repeat if desired.

How Long Does Window Film Last?

How long your window film will last is a difficult question to answer.  First and foremost, not all films are created equal.  The amount of technology that goes into manufacturing different types of film is vastly different.  Another factor will be the quality of the raw materials.  Most of your aftermarket DIY films are single layer dyed films and you should not expect to get much more than a year before failure.  Other films carry a lifetime warranty and and can last for 12+years.  (Authors Note: my vehicle is over 9 years into its current film and it is going strong.)   There is a bit of playing the odds that a vehicle will be traded in or sold before any failure would occur when it comes to lifetime warranty films.  We do not profess that if you drive the same car for 15 years, your window film will look the same as it did the day it was installed.
