March 25, 2020Tragedy Brings Out Our Best
Unfortunately, tragedies tend to bring out the best in humans. Sometimes it takes a disaster to make us slow down from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to stop and think. What if that had been me, my family, or my friends? When times of tragedy appear, how you handle it and react to it can make all the difference in the world.
For those fortunate to not be involved in a disaster, the willingness to lend a helping hand can be life changing for both the volunteers and those struck by the disaster. Scorpion Window Film COO, Josh Buis, has organized multiple relief trips with young men within his community.
Drawing additional attention to this disaster was the fact that a long time business partner of Scorpion’s is based in the area of the Nashville tornadoes and were devastated by the events.
According to Buis, he has had multiple mentors instill him the responsibility of giving back. “I have been fortunate enough to not have experienced a tragedy like this and can only imagine how hard it would be to cope and handle”.
He feels that the values instilled by his former mentors are priceless and something that he takes personal responsibility to instill in these young men.
Along with Buis, the trip was chaperoned by Damon Carrington and together, they led 9 young men from Putnam County to Nashville to offer assistance. As they established their presence in the relief efforts, they became known by the locals as “Team Orange”.
P&E Distributors is a long time business partner of Scorpion. Over the years that business relationship has grown stronger and when they were in need, Buis felt compelled to help. The trip was sponsored by Scorpion, Odd Fellow Printing, RS
Q Fire Protection, P&E Distributors, the Huff Family and Boggess Family.
The group saw the complete devastation and the power of Mother Nature first hand. Their work was coordinated through the local Crisis Response Unit as they cleared debris and worked alongside locals and other volunteers.
They were hosted for accommodations by a local church and had food donated by P&E Distributing.
This trip has led to further discussion by Scorpion and P&E about future relief efforts when the need arises.
