The Morning Glare

Does the lower position of the Sun offer up a glare on your morning commute?

It does for me, assuming the Winter sky isn’t covered with clouds as I make my trek to the office Monday – Friday.  On days when the Sun is out, it is blinding.  Because of this, I had an “eye brow” installed on my vehicle.  It was one of the best additions I made to my Traverse.   I do not regret it one bit.  Because of my experiences, my wife, parents, and brother have added this sun strip to their vehicles because of the increased safety and value.  It has become a must have for any of my vehicles.

No, I didn’t go the barber shop and collect cut hair and glue it across the top of my windshield.  An eye brow is a strip of window film that goes from the top of the windshield down to the AS1 line.   Installing window film or window tint across the entire windshield is illegal in the US.  And for good reason.  If you don’t believe, put on a pair of sunglasses and go for a night time drive and see if you think you have good visibility.   I am willing to lay a little $$ on the line that says your vision will be significantly impacted.

That is the beauty of the eye brow or sun strip.  It doesn’t effect the overall vision because it is only a 6 inch wide strip across the top of the windshield, but its effects are immense.   This simple piece of window film offers so much benefit.  This time of year when the sun seems to be lower on the horizon for the morning commute, it is there to help minimize the glare and blinding effect.  The morning glare is challenging and I find myself stretching higher a bit in my seat if it is still to low to be blocked out by the strip of film.

Again, I can’t stress enough that it is not a good idea to have the entire windshield tinted.  Any professional window film installers should caution you about this application.
