The Water Cooler 

Water cooler jokes are numerous.  Water coolers are dreaded by bosses and owners because they are distracting.   Yet, water coolers are a corporate tradition for years.   SO much office camaraderie can be born, nurtured, and flourish at the water cooler.   Basically, in the my mind, the water cooler is place for bonds to form.  Much the same way when smokers gather in specified area to share their habits, a water cooler can offer the same vessel for those that drink water regularly.

I was the driving force for the water cooler to be placed in our office.  It was not the most popular topic for some in our company, but was widely popular for others.  Because I was the  driving force, anytime something negative that happens in the office and can loosely be attributed to the water cooler……I catch some flack.  It is in good fun and will bear that burden.

Meet at the water cooler and have a conversation about sports.

• BBQ- I am the pit master
• Football- we love football
• Wrestling- several former wrestlers and coaches here
• Golf- we are hacks, Zac thinks he is good
• Politics- Nope…leaving this alone
• Fishing- Stocked pond on the property
• Kids athletics- most of us have kids in sports

The Sales Team at Scorpion just finished up a sales training course and the water cooler was even mentioned in the sales training.  It is bad!  How can a device that distributes crystal clean pure water be a bad thing……  It leads to wasted time.  

Office politics and dynamics are a fascinating topic. There are hundreds of books written about this topic.   Like most offices, we have our usual cast of characters.  I do not believe that we are entertaining enough to have a reality show based off of our daily lives here at Scorpion HQ, but we do have a damn good time and there are several strong personalities.   The water cooler is good location for those character to shine and entertain.     

In my estimation, we solve a lot of problems around the water cooler.   Some good for the company……some, well not so productive.  But it does generate camaraderie.  At the end of the day, if you enjoy your team, it seems less like work.
